Over 2,000 cyclists for Kayuhan

- More than 2,000 cycling enthusiasts including Dato' Seri Azalina
Othman Said, the Minister of Youth and Sports, took part in the
Kayuhan Le Tour de Langkawi 2008 here this morning.
It was the biggest ever turnout for the
ride which has been traditionally held in the weeks leading up
to the Le Tour de Langkawi. This year's Le Tour begins in Alor
Star next week.
"The Le Tour de Langkawi is the fifth
biggest cycling race in the world and it is fully backed by the
Ministry of Tourism as well as the various state government,"
said Dato' Seri Azalina. Dato' Seri Zulhasnan Rafique, the Minister
for the Federal Territory, and Dato' Seri Tengku Adnan, the Minister
of Tourism, also attended today's function. LTdL COO Datuk Naim
Mohamad was also present.
"Apart from promoting the race, one
of the objectives of organizing Kayuhan LTDL 2008 is to promote
healthy lifestyle among Malaysians by taking up cycling. And through
this active lifestyle, it will bring the races and lead to positive
nation building."
While Dato Seri' Azalina, Dato' Seri Zulhasnan,
Dato' Seri Tengku Adnan and other officials took part in a one-kilometre
leisure ride, the other riders continued for 40 kilometres. As
part of today's function, bicycles were given away to some children
from orphanages. There was also lucky draws for those who attended
the event this morning.
"I am thankful for the successful organization
of the Kayuhan LTDL 2008 and hope that it will be held on an annual
basis," said Dato Naim. "It is a great way to promote
the sport of cycling as well as encourage people to have a more
active lifestyle."
The Kayuhan LTDL 2008 which is sponsored
by Amanah Raya Berhad, will next head to Alor Setar, Butterworth
and Bandar Penawar.
