Record 25 teams for next year’s Tour of Langkawi
The Star, 06/12/2007

KUALA LUMPUR: A record 25 teams including five Pro Tour outfits and 10 from Asia will grace the 13th edition of the prestigious Tour of Langkawi from Feb 9-17.

Youth and Sports minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said yesterday launched the logo, website and Tour headquarters at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil.

With the increased participation and the return of the Pro Tour teams, combined with the support of the ministry, who are the main organisers for the event, the Tour of Langkawi 2008 is set to be the best ever since its inception in 1996.

The Tour is also sanctioned by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF), the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the Asian Cycling Confederation.

The Tour’s chief operating officer Datuk Naim Mohamad said one of the primary aims was to promote cycling as a healthy activity through carnival events at start and finish venues.
